Is there a simple way - say, in Network Connections or Network Manager - for a user to simply tell Mint to move beyond the wired connection it is fruitlessly trying to use and instead move on and use the wireless one that appears in Network Connections, and which works?Īm I missing something incredibly obvious? or anywhere else.ĭo I have to run: sudo service network-manager restart or systemctl restart networking network-manager or something? I see no way to do that in Network Connections, Network Settings, etc. I just want to be able to switch that to the wireless connection - which the machine shows - upon that first boot. I have opened up Network Connections, Network Settings, etc., and set it so that the wired connection is at priority 0 and the wireless is set at 999 (as I understand the higher number takes priority), the wired connection is unchecked for "Connect automatically" and "All Users may connect to this Network" while the wireless one has them checked, but the machine still boots looking for the wired connection only, fairly often. Obviously, rebooting to accomplish this is not ideal and I assume that, since wireless is configured and working - and it appears as such in the Network Settings page - there should be a way for me to just tell Mint to use that connection, while the machine is running. The Network Connections dialogue box literally says it has connected through the wired ethernet connection: "Never." If I then re-boot however, the machine will then move to the Wireless connection, which is the only way the machine has ever connected to the internet.

I CAN connect to WiFi, but sometimes, only after an initial boot, where the machine defaults to the "Wired Connection 1" - which has never been used. My machine has both Ethernet and WiFi on board, and Mint 20.1 apparently has them both configured (they both appear in Network Connections), but I only use WiFi, at the moment. Is there a quick way to switch the type of Network Connection your machine is using, from the desktop? A quick search turned up nothing directly on point. Apologies if this has been answered before.
